The Sun

The Sun was a pub to the rear of The Black Buoy. The lane behind is now named Sun Yard but from maps in the 1860s this was referred to as the Rookery. Those same maps show a row of cottages running north-south with a warehouse at the south end.
The warehouse remains and is the store house behind the Black Buoy. The cottages were demolished in the 1960s as slums.

The Sun pub was on Brook Street opposite Alice's Cottage, the site of the pub is now the entrance to the Black Buoy car park. Alice Gould was born in the Sun and later moved to the cottage opposite which has now been named in her memory.
